Principal's Report

“Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart…”
1 Kings 3:9
This week, our Senior School students returned from their Residential Programs, spending time in places that invite both challenge and reflection. Be it Anglesea (Yr 7), Gilwell Park (yr 8), Charnwood and Lake Nillahcootie (Yr 10) or Lorne (Yr 12), students climbed, paddled, hiked and worked together, often discovering that they were capable of more than they first imagined.
Experiences such as these are an important part of a Huntingtower education. Our Residential Programs provide opportunities for students to grow not only in capability, but also in understanding: of themselves, of one another and of the wider world around them.
In the wisdom literature of the Bible, Solomon famously asks not for wealth or power, but for “an understanding heart”. Wisdom, in this tradition, grows through reflection, experience and a willingness to see beyond one’s immediate circumstances. Time spent in the outdoors often creates such moments. Standing beside a vast ocean, walking through bushland or canoeing along a lake has a way of broadening our view of the world and our place within it.
I would like to thank our staff who generously gave their time to make these experiences possible and our students who approached each challenge with enthusiasm and goodwill.
