As part of their Probability unit, our Year 7 ASPIRE students took on a hands-on and highly engaging project - designing and creating their very own casino-style games. Students applied their understanding of probability, chance and mathematical reasoning to design games with calculated odds, exploring concepts such as likelihood, fairness and risk along the way.

Beyond the maths itself, this project provided a valuable real-world lesson. Through building and testing their own games, students quickly came to understand an important truth: the odds are almost always designed in favour of the house, not the player. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to see, first-hand, why gambling is not a safe or fair way to try to make money, and why "the house always wins" is far more than just a saying - it's mathematics in action.

This project was a wonderful example of learning that extends well beyond the classroom, helping students build not only their mathematical skills, but also their critical thinking and understanding of real-world decision-making. A huge congratulations to our Year 7 ASPIRE students for their creativity, effort and insight throughout this unit.
