From Nick Sell, Senior School Science teacher
Year 3
This fortnight has been full of experiments. We have been learning about the solar system and the ways in which we can explore the different planets. Students have designed their own space probes/rovers to explore a different planet. We have also investigated Newton's first law and the power of rockets!

Year 4
Students have been exploring our local environment and understanding how we can change the land over time. We have taken a look at different maps of the local area to get a better understanding of why certain buildings are made out of different materials (bluestone). We have also been investigating sustainable housing practices and how we can best use a small footprint to be self sufficient.

Year 5
Students have finished their space probe presentations. There were some really interesting space probes and scientific objectives. We definitely have some budding astrophysicists at North Melbourne! Make sure to ask them what their space probe's objective is and even take a look at makers' empires for the 3D design!

Year 6
The grade 6’s had a go at testing water this week to see what different minerals it contained. We tested both clean and dirty water, the results gave us lots to talk about!

Science at Home
Here are a couple of fun science activities we did at school this week. Maybe you could try one at home?
