Physical Education

From Kale Vagnoni and  Mark Quinn, PE teachers

It's just a Hop, Step and Jump to Term 2

Preps, Year 1’s and 2’s

As we roll into our final week of Term 1 some of us are crawling to the finish line. Luckily in the PE Dept we value the crawl as a fundamental movement pattern integral to maintaining whole-body coordination and core strength. Our broad brim hats go off to our Prep students (and their parents and carers!) who are just about to cross the finish line on their first term of school!

As well as much needed rest time, the school holidays can provide some great movement opportunities. If you get the chance, have a go at getting your family outdoors. Simple things like local hikes and bike rides are rich movement experiences that help us connect health to our local community. If you are stuck for ideas the paths around Royal Park are a great place to start.

Year 3-6

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Up at the Errol St campus we’ve continued praying to the weather gods. Sometimes they seem to listen. We’ve had another varied fortnight of steamy blue skies and bucketing rain That stable Autumn weather we bank on for Bike Ed just hasn’t yet rolled in.

Luckily for us we can look forward to the Athletics Season officially kicking off in Term 2, where a little rain is all part of the experience.

Sprints, Hurdles, Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Shot Put and Discus are official bread and butter, with plenty of fun health and movement related games thrown into the mix.

So if you have the chance over the holiday break, get outdoors and have a go at practising some running, jumping and throwing in a variety of different ways.

Did you know?

On average, students at a Primary School level grow around 6cm per year.

If you don’t already, be sure to mark your families heights on a chart or even the back of a door to keep a visual record.
