Rugby League Pacific Championships Jersey

On Thursday 26th October, our students in the rugby program were invited to present the Kiwi men and Kiwi Ferns women squads with their jerseys for their matches in the 2023 Rugby League Pacific Championships.  The students prepared for the event by dressing in their Pasifika cultural clothing and they wore their clothes with honour and pride.

The students attended Federation Square and waited for the players to arrive. Although many of the students were nervous to be presenting professional rugby players with their jerseys in front of a big crowd, all the nerves disappeared as they went up to the stage. Students were brought to tears as they handed some of their favourite players their match jerseys.

The crowd was in awe of our students, particularly when the boys performed the haka for the Kiwis. The haka is a ceremonial Māori war dance or challenge. A haka is usually performed in a group and represents a display of tribal pride, strength and unity. Following this, the students were fortunate enough to get photos, signatures and a lot of warm hugs from some of their favourite players. We are so proud of how the students represented the college and presented the players their jerseys with a warm embrace. What an experience!
