Numeracy

Numeracy, the ability to understand and work with numbers, holds immense significance for every individual. It serves as the foundation for critical life skills, enabling people to make informed decisions, manage finances, and engage in problem-solving with confidence. Proficiency in numeracy is essential not only in academia but also in the professional world, where it plays a pivotal role in fields ranging from science and technology to business and economics.

Recognizing the paramount importance of numeracy, the Department of Education and our college have embarked on a collaborative effort to enhance students' numeracy skills. To achieve this goal, our dedicated educators are diligently working on the development of numeracy profiles for our students. These profiles provide a comprehensive assessment of each student's numerical abilities, delineating their current capabilities and outlining their next steps in the learning journey.

In addition to numeracy assessments, these profiles also encompass students' reading levels, ensuring a holistic understanding of their academic strengths and areas for improvement. The foundation of these profiles is rooted in the results of students' PAT testing, allowing us to effectively tailor our educational approaches to individual needs.

For our Year 7 students, this academic year marks a special focus on the development of numeracy SMART Goals. Collaborating closely with their math teachers, students are encouraged to set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals to enhance their numeracy skills.

We urge parents and guardians to actively support their children in pursuing these goals and to foster open communication with teachers. By doing so, we can collectively empower our students to reach their full numeracy potential and excel in their educational journey. Together, we can pave the way for a brighter, more numerate future for our students.
