LOTE (Chinese)

Term 2 LOTE Gallery Display (P-6)
Time to celebrate the amazing work completed by our Prep to Year 6 students in Term 2 through a gallery display in the LOTE classroom.Come to check it out!
Prep and Year 2learners developed a deep understanding of the Chinese character '马/馬' (mǎ, Horse) and used their creative thinking skills to design different patterns for this character in both English and Chinese. They also incorporated authentic backgrounds of their choice to enhance their designs.
As curious inquirers, Year 3 and 4studentsbuilt their first Chinese character mind map based on '马 🐴 (Horse)'. They exploredassociated vocabulary, including 马年 (Year of the Horse), 战马 (Warhorse), 斑马 (Zebra) and 海马 (Seahorse) as well as Chinese idioms, such as
一马当先 (Leading to Success), 马到成功 (Immediate Success) and 马年大吉 (Wishing You Good Fortune in the Year of the Horse). It was fascinating to observe their visible thinking through this formative assessment.
Year 5 and 6 learners were introduced to the delicate Chinese folk art of paper-cutting (中国剪纸). This well-known art form provided students with valuable hands-on learning experiences. As 2026 is the Year of the Horse, they practised their fine-motor skills by carefully cutting intricate horse-head templates. Students demonstrated great enthusiasm throughout this activity, particularly when designing the horse's face with their preferred backgrounds.
I am truly proud to celebrate our students' success in LOTE this term. They should feel extremely proud of their achievements and take pride in their phenomenal work!
