Level Three

English

This term, students completed a class book study of  Brindabella. Through reading and discussing the novel, students explored character development, setting, and key themes. They practised making predictions, identifying important events, and supporting their ideas with evidence from the text. Students enjoyed engaging in rich discussions and deepening their understanding of the story through a variety of reading activities.

Students also explored the short stories in Wongutha Tales, which provided valuable opportunities to learn about Aboriginal culture, traditions, and perspectives. Through analysing these stories, students developed their comprehension skills while gaining a greater appreciation of Australia's rich First Nations histories and storytelling traditions. Students then wrote their own narratives that reflected the key messages learnt in Wongutha Tales.

Maths

This term, students have been building their understanding of multiplication and division through hands-on activities, problem-solving tasks, and real-life examples. They have been practising different strategies to solve problems and growing in confidence with their number facts.

Students have also been learning about two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, looking at their features and how we see them in everyday life. At the moment, they are exploring location and developing their skills with maps, directions, coordinates, and positional language through practical activities.

Students engaged in meaningful discussions about reconciliation, respect, and the importance of recognising and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Through stories, artwork, and classroom activities, students developed a deeper understanding of Australia's First Nations peoples and their ongoing contributions to our community.

Speech Competition

One of the highlights of the term was our Year 3 Speech Competition. Students worked hard to prepare and present speeches on a variety of interesting topics. Throughout the process, they developed their public speaking skills, learning how to engage an audience through clear expression, eye contact, and confident delivery. We were incredibly proud of the effort, courage, and enthusiasm shown by all students who participated.
