Level Four

READER'S WORKSHOP

In Reader's Workshop, students have been developing their comprehension skills by focusing on the strategies of monitoring and questioning. Students practised checking that what they were reading made sense and identifying when they needed to stop and clarify their understanding. They also learnt to ask thoughtful questions before, during and after reading to deepen their comprehension and engagement with texts.

WRITING

In Writing, students have been researching a biome or animal of their choice in preparation for creating an information report. They have been learning how to use reliable resources, including books and trusted websites, to gather accurate and trustworthy information. Students have worked hard to organise their research and transform it into informative reports. They have also designed beautiful and detailed posters to accompany their writing, showcasing both their creativity and research skills.

MATHEMATICS

In Mathematics, students have been exploring fractions, decimals and measurement, with a focus on area and perimeter. They have been applying their understanding through a variety of practical activities and problem-solving tasks.

Many students have also begun an exciting Biome Conservation Centre Project. In this project, students selected a biome and researched animals that belong within that environment. They then used their knowledge of area and perimeter to design animal enclosures and calculate the area and perimeter of each space. This real-world application has helped students consolidate their mathematical understanding while making meaningful connections to science and conservation.

THEME- BIOMES

As part of our Theme unit, students have been learning about the world's different biomes and exploring the unique characteristics that make each one special. They investigated the climate, ecosystems, flora and fauna found within a range of biomes, including how living things adapt to survive in their environments. Students conducted research using a variety of sources and showcased their learning by creating informative posters and websites. These projects allowed students to demonstrate their understanding while developing their research, digital technology and presentation skills.

We are very proud of the effort, creativity and enthusiasm students have demonstrated across all learning areas this term!
