Advanced Core English

Following their study of Arthur Miller's The Crucible, our Year 10 Advanced Core English students participated in a mock trial: The People vs John Proctor. 

Working as members of the prosecution and defence teams, students developed evidence-based arguments, examined the motivations and actions of key characters, and prepared witnesses for examination and cross-examination. 

The trial concluded with a student jury deliberating and delivering a verdict based on the evidence presented.

This learning experience required students to engage critically with the text, drawing on social and historical context to analyse character, setting and theme, and consider multiple perspectives. 

Through persuasive speaking, active listening and collaborative problem-solving, students demonstrated key English skills in interpreting texts, argumentation and communication.

It was a pleasure to watch students engage so thoughtfully with the text and see their confidence, creativity, and critical thinking come to life throughout the trial!
