Pathways & Careers Report 

A big thank you to Leela and Sami in Year 10 for constructing the new bookshelf for the Careers-Pathways Office. The girls confidently and competently took on this job – and we are very appreciative. 

We recently had the Australian Defence Forces (ADF) talk to all of the Year 11 students about careers and pathways. Did you know that there are over 300 different fully paid roles in the ADF where you receive on-the-job training. 

With only weeks remaining until our Year 12 finish their studies, our VCE VM students were keen to further build their skills and career portfolio, completing their Responsible Serving of Alcohol (RSA) training. As well as increasing their employability, they now hold a nationally recognised qualification related to the growing Accommodation and Food Services Industry. Congratulations to these students.

Early next term, some of our Year 11 students will also gain Barista and Food Handlers qualifications that they will be able to put into practice in the new café. 

We are working hard at Woodmans Hill to support students to build their employability skills and experience through a range of career programs. We want students to be able to transfer their skills and knowledge into the workplace and be able to make informed decisions about their futures.

Over the past two terms, we have had over 50 students take advantage of career experiences offered through the Highlands LLEN, City of Ballarat and Federation TAFE. These programs have included: Explore Working in Hair and Beauty, IT and Cyber Security, Baking and Trades, and taster programs in: Health, Building and Construction and Engineering and Welding. 

We want to take this opportunity to thank these organisations for their ongoing support. Congratulations to all of the students who have shown interest in these programs and participated with enthusiasm.

Finally, Rowan McCarthy a year 12 student has been successful in gaining a place in a 12 month cadetship with One and All. This exciting opportunity will see Rowan spending the next 12 months in South Australia on board a sailing ship. As well as logging hours at sea, Rowan will complete a Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal).

Well done to Rowan on this amazing achievement and a huge appreciation goes out to Kara for identifying this opportunity for Rowan and supporting him in the application process.
