Greater Western Region Girls Senior Football

The 21st May saw the Senior (Yr 11/12) girls footy team head to Pedrina Park for the Greater Western Region Girls Football Competition. The rain didn’t stop for the whole day but the girls kept kicking on. With an inexperienced team we started the day on the back foot. When four girls were no longer available, thankfully three of the Yr 10 girls helped us out. Unfortunately, with little preparation and limited experience, we struggled to set up effective plays. This didn’t work in our favour in the first game as we were defeated by Ballarat High School. Our second game was a lot better as we settled into the game and were able to get a good run on the ball, resulting in a big win. The final score was Monivae 5.5 35 to Murtoa 0. Our best players for the day were Sharnee Hutchinson and Skye Kissel. Thank you to Paul Cleaver for taking the day off to coach the group, and the Year 9/10 girls for filling in the early game.

The intermediate girls played on the same day. They played a solid team game in round 1 against Trinity College, narrowly going down by 2 points. The final score was 16 to18. Goalkickers for the game were Macy Riley and Matilda Mason. Game 2 was against a very strong Horsham College. Our defenders played very well under a lot of pressure. The final score was Monivae 2, to Horsham 24. The girls had lots of fun and displayed great resilience in cold and wet conditions.

Thanks to Mrs Couchman and Belinda for coaching and assisting on the day

Glenelg Division Boys Football

Our Year 11/12 team took to the field with our development squad in the GD competition, giving our top players a well-deserved rest and allowing our up-and-coming stars to shine. We faced tough competition but rose to the challenges throughout the tournament and went undefeated to claim victory. We played against the local Secondary schools including THAC, Baimbridge, and Portland Secondary College. Better players across the day included Brodie Phillips, Archie Page, Hugh Fitzgerald, Zac Elliott and Xander Prentice.

Not to be outdone our Year 9/10 team followed suit. Once again, our development squad showed their prowess, overcoming initial hurdles to dominate the tournament. Our boys demonstrated their resilience and teamwork, also going through the tournament undefeated. Better players for the day were Jett Lovell, Oscar Fanning, Hamish Button, Hugh Prentice, and Levi Templeton.

Cross Country - Glenelg Division / Greater Western Region

On Monday the 6th of May, forty-five students headed to Casterton Secondary College to compete in the GD Cross Country. It was a cloudy and windy day, making the course a little damp. The course had a few steep hills making it a little bit challenging, but all students ran with a positive attitude and showed great determination.

Following on from the GD Cross country, forty-one students qualified for GWR Cross country held at the Albert Park, Reid Oval in Warrnambool. The weather made it a perfect day for running as the sun was out, and the track was dry. All students showed a lot of enthusiasm and put in great effort, during their event. Congratulations to Harry McShane for coming third in his age group. Along with Harry the following students will be heading to the State Cross Country in July.

  • Harry McShane
  • Edward McShane
  • Sharnee Hutchison
  • Archie Templeton
  • Matilda Brook
  • Tatum Bell
  • Gwyneth Homer
  • Liam Keable

Congratulations to Archie Porter and Reigan Belleville our Cross Country Captains.

Soccer - Wednesday night

The Wednesday night soccer competition is well under way with round 1 being a face-off between the Monivae teams. Monivae Blue were victorious in the match winning 2-0. After a bye in week 2 they returned to win their next two matches beating the two College teams. Monivae Maroon in week two played College blue and this resulted in a victory. Following the win they won their next 2 games beating both College Gold and Baimbridge 1.

Both Monivae squads have played very well and scored quite the sum of goals over the competition so far. Just one loss between the teams means Monivae is a force to be reckoned with.
