Live4Life Launch
Our Year 8 students had a fabulous time at the Live4Life Southern Grampians Launch on Thursday 16th May, which was hosted this year by Baimbridge College. The students heard about the program and the Teen Mental Health First Aid course that they will complete in Term 4. More information will come out about this in Term 3. Students were also involved in a number of fun games and activities which they seemed to thoroughly enjoy.
We are very lucky to have an enthusiastic and passionate group of students involved in the Live4Life Crew, who have completed their induction and helped to plan and present the launch event. Stella S (Yr10) helped to open the presentation and spoke about the importance of Live4Life in rural communities. The crew presented their theme for 2024 to the Year 8 students and their poster below:
Social Media Contracts
There has been a lot of discussion and media commentary lately about social media, young people and raising the age of social media users. Some helpful resources are available from the eSafety Commission, https://www.esafety.gov.au/
Another great idea is for families to develop, in conjunction with their young people, a social media contract, a set of guidelines that families agree upon to help keep everyone safe. I have found a really helpful template for families which has common sense statements and explanations which outline the importance of online safety. It is available at: https://lindastade.com/useful-social-media-contract/
Please see an example of this Social Media Contract below. It is a good starting point for families to discuss the role of social media, the importance of ‘real-life’ connections, valuing the positive aspects that social media can play in a young person’s life, though seting boundaries and limitations for useage.
Enjoy the long weekend, stay warm and stay well!
