Community Service Education Taster

A partnership with GOTAFE, Latrobe University and University of Melbourne has culminated in a very successful taster day at the college. Careers Club on Thursday 7 September was a fantastic day with visitors from various health, community service and education organisations.

Students were able to ask questions about training and employment, and took part in many fun activities related to these professions which included nursing, allied health, social work, early childhood education, education, aged care, community service, medicine, disability and much more.

Many thanks to the following organisations who have support our students with this event:

  • GOTAFE
  • Latrobe University
  • University of Melbourne
  • GV Health
  • NCN Health
  • Connect GV
  • Primary Care Connect
  • The Bridge
  • Family Care

GSSC Part-Time Job Expo

Careers Club on Thursday 31 August was a hive of activity, with a 'Part-Time Job Expo' at lunch time held in the middle courtyard. The organisations commented how lovely it was for our students who currently work for them to pop over and say 'hi'.

Many thanks to Target, Kmart, KFC and McDonalds for giving up your time to support our students in assisting them to apply for casual work and part-time work.

We look forward to seeing our students in these workplaces in the future.

Puckapunyal Open Day

Fifteen students from GSSC took part in the Australian Defence Force Puckapunyal Open Day on Thursday 1 September. A great day for all to experience.

Students rode in Bushmasters vehicles, watched demonstrations of loading cannons using teamwork, the usage of drones, participation in fitness drills that were then followed by a wonderful mess style lunch.

Information was obtained on how to apply, what the prerequisites are to join and how to apply for work experience. A pass in Year 10 Maths and Year 10 English are the requirements for a secondary school student. The ADF also look at student reports upon application.
