Micro Mathematicians

During Term 2, the Melbourne University Outreach team visited GSSC to work with sixty Year 7 to 10 students on their Micro Mathematicians program. This is an enrichment program for students who have an interest in maths beyond the classroom. Students worked in groups to investigate and solve problems. The Year 7 and 8 students investigated Knot Theory, while the Year 9 and 10 students investigated Bijections. The engagement from the students was excellent and we look forward to the team visiting us again in 2024.

Chocolate Filled Classroom

Some of the Year 11 VM Numeracy students completed a fun activity where they calculated how much it would cost to fill their classroom with chocolate. Each student got a different chocolate bar. They took the measurements of their chocolate bar and then measured the dimensions of the classroom. It turns out that it would be pretty expensive to fill a classroom with chocolate! Over $1,000,000 for most of the bars that were used!
