Therapeutic Martial Arts Program

Be strong, be calm, be kind and try hard is the mantra behind the Mat Life Skills program that a number of our Years 7 and 8 students have been taking part in this term.

The program combines the principles of physical and mental wellbeing through therapeutic martial arts training that aims to engage and empower young people to learn life skills and better manage the challenges in their life.

Pictured here are students Tyson and Jesse in their final session taking part in a Teisho and Board Breaking exercise. The students have been building up to the execution of this technique all term, which involves a palm strike with open fingers, focusing on cooperation, rather than force. Building up to the successful execution of the technique is aimed to celebrate a journey and appreciate what can be achieved when we work for it.

The 8-week Mat Life Skills program has been funded by School Focused Youth Service and we thank our facilitator Guy, School Nurse Mark and Wellbeing Officer Harris for supporting the students during the sessions each Friday.
