MIDDLE SCHOOL | Update

Dear Years 9 and 10 Parents/Carers and Students

Welcome back to Term 4. It has been great to see students settle back into learning and make a positive start to the term.

There have already been opportunities to celebrate the creativity and talents of our students, with Year 9 and 10 performances at the SMR Athletics on Tuesday 6 October and student artwork on display at the Art Exhibition on Monday 12 October.

We have seven weeks of learning ahead before our Middle School examinations, followed by Early Commencement, when Year 10 students begin their Year 11 studies and Year 9 students begin their Year 10 studies for 2027. The term will culminate in Frankston High School’s Presentation Night on Tuesday 15 December, celebrating the excellence, aspiration and community demonstrated by students across Years 7–12.

Year 10 – Formal and Respectful Relationships

Week 1 finished in style at Mornington Golf Club, where our Year 10 students danced the night away at the Year 10 Formal. The cohort is to be commended on their exemplary behaviour and the strong sense of connection they demonstrated throughout the evening.

Thank you to the Year 10 Team, Mr Quiambao, Ms Richardson and Ms Beck, for their support and organisation. A special acknowledgement to Ms Johnson for leading the event and coordinating the team to create a memorable evening for our students.

Year 10 students have also continued their Respectful Relationships Unit through their Optima classes. Across Weeks 1 and 2, students participated in workshops facilitated by Sexual Health Victoria. They are also working through four online modules via To Future Me, consolidating their learning about healthy relationships, consent, recognising red flags, media literacy, laws relating to sexual content, peer pressure, safety and respect.

On Thursday 29 October, Wayne Holdsworth from Smack Talk will present to our students, extending this important learning.

Year 9 – City Perspectives

Our Year 9 cohort is preparing for the City Perspectives excursion on Tuesday 27 October. Students will explore Melbourne in small groups, each taking a different perspective on the city based on their interests. Students have selected from eight themes:

  • The Beautiful City
  • The Tourist City
  • The Historical City
  • The Future City
  • The Fashion City
  • The Cultural City
  • The Sporting City
  • The Law and Order City

During Optima classes in Weeks 2–4, students will work through guided planning workshops to prepare for the excursion. In Week 5, they will complete a reportable learning task based on their experience.

**Consent for these excursions is required (via Compass) by Friday 23 October.

This is an exciting opportunity for students to explore their interests, work collaboratively and strengthen their personal and social capabilities.

Looking Ahead | Examinations and Early Commencement

Year 9 and 10 End-of-Year Examinations will take place from Tuesday 24 to Thursday 26 November, with examinations in English, Mathematics and Science. Students will attend school only for their scheduled examination each day, with further information about timetables, preparation and examination expectations provided via Compass.

The Year 11 End of year Examinations will run from Monday 16 November to Thursday 26 November. Year 10 students studying an accelerated subject can access the Year 11 exam timetable via Compass. In the event that a Year 10 student’s VCE exam clashes with their Year 10 exam, the student will attend their VCE exam and arrange with the Year 10 Team to complete their Year 10 exam during the Year 9 exam session.
