Year 7 French – Crêpe Challenge!
Year 7 French students are invited to put on their chef's hat and enter our French Crêpe Competition during Weeks 2 and 3 (12-25 October).
Simply make crêpes at home, take a photo of the cooking process or the finished product, and submit your entry. Every participant earns House Points, and fantastic prizes await our top three crêpe makers. Houses will also compete for the highest participation rate.
We can't wait to see the creativity, effort, and delicious crêpes our Year 7 students produce.
Bonne chance et bon appétit!
French Culture Spotlight: Roule Galette
Did you know that Melbourne is home to an authentic French crêperie?
Roule Galette, located in Melbourne CBD and Carnegie, specialises in traditional French crêpes and galettes (savoury buckwheat crêpes), offering a true taste of France right here in Victoria. The restaurant serves a wide range of sweet and savoury options, from classic sugar crêpes to more adventurous French specialties.
As our Year 7 students take part in the French Crêpe Competition, families looking for more French culinary inspiration may enjoy visiting this local French crêperie and discovering one of France's most famous dishes. After all, in France, sharing crêpes is not only delicious but also an important part of French culture and tradition.
Bon appétit et bonne découverte de la culture française !
Mettre la main à la pâte !
One of our favourite French expressions is "mettre la main à la pâte", which literally means "to put your hand in the dough." While it originally referred to baking and cooking, it is now commonly used to mean "to lend a hand" or "get involved."
For example:
Toute la famille a mis la main à la pâte pour préparer les crêpes.(The whole family pitched in to make the crêpes.)
As our Year 7 students prepare for the French Crêpe Competition, this expression is especially fitting. Making crêpes is a wonderful way to discover French culture while rolling up your sleeves, helping in the kitchen, and creating something delicious to share with family and friends.
So, Year 7 students, it's time to mettre la main à la pâte and show us your best crêpe creations. We can't wait to see your culinary talents in action!
