2027 TIMETABLE | Information

Dear Parents/Carers and Students
Throughout 2025 and 2026, Frankston High School undertook a comprehensive review of our timetable structure to consider how the school day can best support student learning, wellbeing and engagement into the future. The review has involved extensive consultation with students, staff, parents/carers and School Council, alongside consideration of timetable structures and practices in other secondary schools. Thank you to everyone who contributed feedback and perspectives throughout this process.
Following careful consideration of this feedback, Frankston High School will transition to a five-period day for 2027, with the new structure commencing as part of our Early Commencement Program on Monday 30 November 2026.
Under the new structure, students will have five 58-minute periods each day, operating across a two-week timetable cycle. Period 0 will no longer operate, and the school day will run from 9.00am to 3.05pm, with bell times as follows:
Period 1 9.00am – 9.58am
Transition 9.58am – 10.02am
Period 2 10.02am – 11.00am
Recess 11.00am – 11.22am
Period 3 11.22am – 12.20pm
Transition 12.20pm – 12.25pm
Period 4 12.25pm – 1.23pm
Lunch 1.23pm – 2.07pm
Period 5 2.07pm – 3.05pm
The move to a five-period day has been designed to support:
- deeper and more sustained learning, with longer periods providing greater opportunities to implement our Teaching and Learning Model;
- fewer transitions between classes throughout the school day;
- fewer lessons after lunch, when students can experience greater fatigue;
- the removal of Period 0 and timetabled lunchtime classes, reducing extended learning days for students;
- greater flexibility in the way subjects are structured, including improved alignment between Year 10 and VCE to support acceleration opportunities
Curriculum and subject allocations have been carefully reviewed to ensure students continue to receive appropriate learning time across their subjects. The use of a two-week timetable cycle provides additional flexibility to achieve this balance.
Students will receive their individual timetables via Compass ahead of the Early Commencement Program. We recognise that families and students may have questions about how the new structure will operate, so we have also prepared the below Frequently Asked Questions with further information. If you have further questions, please contact John Simon, Campus Principal via email on timetable@fhs.vic.edu.au.
We look forward to introducing the new structure and believe it provides an important opportunity to strengthen the way learning is structured across the school.
Kind regards
Frankston High School
