Physical Education News

Dear Tarneit Rise Primary School Families and Friends
Welcome back for the last PE newsletter for term 3. We’ve been working on some awesome skills over the past 2 weeks.
Shoutouts!
Congratulations to our Division athletics team who competed on the 10th of September against students from all over Tarneit and surrounding regions. We were able to send 23 students, our most ever! A testament to the awesome athletes we have here at Tarneit Rise.
A special shoutout to Eva, Viyona, Samisoni, Bisman and Gurman who made it through to Regionals in their respective events. Congratulations!
Eva has also competed in the Girls Under 12 Victorian State Schools Netball team against other States and Territories over the course of week 10. At the time of writing, her team is undefeated with 8 wins from their first 8 games. Amazing effort!
Team of the Term
We also have a shoutout for these 11 outstanding students. The Team of the Term is a special acknowledgment of the amazing effort shown by students in PE. The students selected this week are from across all year levels and have shown awesome effort for the entire team.
Preps
Preps have continued practicing their throwing and their catching, with some more awesome growth shown. We have had some revision over the key components of each of the skills, and had fun using them in a game of clean up the yard. We will assess their fundamentals including the high catch early next term!
Grade 1s and 2s
Grade 1 and 2 students have also been completing a unit of throwing for power and accuracy. After 2 weeks of target practice, students have now played clean up the yard and skittles, with the former focusing on power and the latter focusing on accuracy.
Grade 3s and 4s
The grade 3 and 4 students have been smashing out the Fitness unit. The Cooper Run was a massive success with many students improving their scores, as well as their tracking accuracy and rate of recovery. We understand sickbay visits spike during this unit, but rest assured we are ensuring a safe environment for students to learn how to complete a range of movements with a focus on their ability to monitor how their body reacts to different stressors.
Grades 5s and 6s
Grade 5 and 6 students have also been smashing the Fitness unit. We have now completed our 6 week fitness adventure with the cooper Run. Students were able to track how far they’ve come over the last 6 weeks. We hope to have encouraged students to give circuits a go at home, or get them into any movement to help them in developing into healthy, happy adults.
