Spelling: 

Grade 2 students have learned about silent letters ‘k’ (as in know) and ‘b’, (as in lamb) and when to use the letter ‘c’ or ‘k’. Please see the example below, showing that letter ‘k’ is used when the following letter is ‘i’, ‘e’, or ‘y’.

Comprehension:

Grade 2 students have been practicing the comprehension strategy of monitoring, to ensure they understand what they are reading. You can follow these steps when reading with your child, to address any barriers to understanding.

Storybook:

You and Me, Murrawee is a children's picture book by Kerri Hashmi, illustrated by Felicity Marshall that compares the daily life of a modern camping girl with an Indigenous Australian girl named Murrawee who lived 200 years earlier. Students have learned the vocabulary words ancient, stride, and strain while reading and discussing this storybook.

Grammar:

In Grammar, students have been learning about verb tenses, including past, present and future tense. We worked hard on a writing piece about an imaginary trip to the zoo, using verbs in the appropriate tenses to describe the experience.

Maths

In Mathematics, students have begun working with additive patterns, and have continued to represent and analyse data visually through the use of picture graphs. We have also continued to revise our understanding of multiplication and division concepts.

Respectful Relationships

In Respectful Relationships, students are learning to compare ways our preferences may be similar or different from those of our peers. This helps students respect and celebrate differences, rather than viewing them negatively.
