CAREERS AND PATHWAYS

Your Pathway. Your Future. Your World. Career & Subject Expo

On Tuesday 19th May, Mickleham Secondary College proudly hosted our inaugural Your Pathway. Your Future. Your World. Career & Subject Expo. The event provided students and families with the opportunity to explore the wide range of pathways, subjects and post-school opportunities available to them.

The College Gym was transformed into an interactive careers and pathways hub, with universities, TAFEs, employment agencies, apprenticeship providers and our own subject domain areas all coming together to support students in planning for their future. Students had the chance to speak directly with exhibitors, ask questions, gather information and begin thinking about the pathways that best align with their interests, strengths and goals.

Our Domain Leaders and teachers also showcased the wide range of subjects available at Mickleham Secondary College, helping students and families better understand the opportunities available through VCE, VCE VM, VPC, VET and SBAT pathways.

Throughout the afternoon, Year 10 students completed pathway passports to encourage meaningful conversations with exhibitors and staff, while Year 8 and 9 students participated in subject and pathway activities to support their future planning and subject selection journey.

The event also included Parent Information Sessions for families of current Year 9 and Year 10 students, providing valuable information about senior secondary pathways, subject selection processes and future opportunities available to students.

A huge thank you to all staff, exhibitors, students and families who contributed to making the event such a success. Events like these play an important role in supporting students to make informed decisions about their future and continue building their Pathway Journey.

Year 9 – The Game Plan Incursion

Today, our Year 9 students participated in the exciting “My Game Plan” careers incursion presented by Tripod.

This interactive session encourages students to think about their future in a different way, not just focusing on what they want to do after school but also understanding the skills they are building right now through their everyday learning and experiences. The program explores how teamwork, communication, creativity, problem-solving and resilience all play an important role in shaping future pathways and career opportunities.

Students will reflect on questions such as:

  • What did I want to be when I was younger?

  • What are my strengths and interests?

  • What skills am I developing at school?

  • What steps can I take over the next four years to support my future goals?

The incursion is designed to help students connect their learning at school to the real world, while building confidence, self-awareness and motivation as they begin exploring future pathways and possibilities. We look forward to seeing our Year 9 students using the strategies from the incursion to start developing their own “game plan” for the future.
