The objective of the incursion was to deepen students’ understanding of Federal Parliament, government, and democracy through engaging and interactive activities.

Throughout the incursion, students examined the democratic process in Australia. They learned about the roles of the three levels of government and how the Australian Federal Parliament relates to the Westminster system.

Students took part in an interactive federal election, where they learned about preferential voting and absolute majorities. They also participated in a Federal Parliament role-play to demonstrate how bills become laws. Students formed political parties and contributed their own perspectives to debates, allowing their creativity and critical thinking skills to flourish.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained valuable knowledge in the process. Perhaps we have inspired a future political leader among our Year 5 cohort!
