Y12: Back to Inspire - Alumni Return to Motivate Our Year 12 Students

ICOM once again welcomed back some of its incredible alumni for our much-anticipated Back to Inspire secondary event, where former students shared their beyond-school journeys with our current cohort of Year 12 students.
This meaningful event provided a unique opportunity for our students to connect with those who once walked the same halls and faced the same challenges. Our alumni spoke candidly about their experiences at ICOM, offering valuable insights into coping with the pressures of senior studies, managing time effectively, and maintaining strong academic habits, all while caring for their mental wellbeing throughout the journey.
Students were engaged with a series of thoughtful prompts that sparked honest and practical conversations, covering everything from structuring a consistent study week and preparing for SACs, to staying disciplined, bouncing back after a disappointing result, and avoiding the trap of comparing themselves to others. The alumni responded with refreshing honesty, sharing not only their successes but also their struggles and the lessons they learned
along the way.
To conclude the session, alumni rotated between student groups, engaging in meaningful one-on-one conversations and answering a wide range of questions from our Year 12 students. The energy in the room was one of genuine connection and encouragement, a reminder that those who have gone before us are often our greatest source of inspiration.
Our Year 12 students left the session motivated, reassured, and equipped with practical strategies to carry them through the year ahead. Hearing from those who once sat exactly where they are now was not only inspiring, it was truly empowering.
