The session explored what studying at Melbourne looks like day-to-day - from the structure of lectures, tutorials and independent study to the vibrant campus culture, clubs and societies, research opportunities, and support services available to first-year students. Representatives explained Melbourne’s distinctive undergraduate model, where students complete a broad three-year bachelor’s degree before progressing to specialised graduate study in areas such as medicine, law, engineering or teaching.

Students were introduced to the range of bachelor programs on offer, including the Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Biomedicine, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Design, Bachelor of Agriculture, and a Bachelor of Oral Health. The presenter outlined how each degree is structured, the flexibility within subject majors, and how these pathways connect to future careers - whether in health and biomedical research, engineering, environmental science, business, data analytics, policy, design, or postgraduate

professional programs.

Clear guidance was provided on entry requirements, including ATAR expectations, IB equivalencies, prerequisite subjects (particularly in Mathematics and Sciences), and how subject selection in Year 12 directly impacts course eligibility. Students were also informed about key application timelines and how to apply through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC).

Importantly, the session highlighted the range of financial and equity supports available. Representatives explained the Access Melbourne program and the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS), which consider personal circumstances alongside academic results, as well as the Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship and other merit- and equity-based scholarships. The Early Entry (Guaranteed ATAR) pathways and the R.E.A.D.Y. enrichment initiatives were also discussed, helping students understand the multiple avenues available to strengthen their applications and prepare for tertiary study.

Overall, the presentation provided practical, transparent information to help students make informed decisions about subject selection, university preferences, and long-term career planning, while building confidence about the transition from secondary

school to life at Melbourne.
