Congratulations to Our Year 12 Industrial Technology Class 

Congratulations to our Year 12 Industrial Technology students and their teacher, Mr Storey, on the successful completion of their HSC Major Projects. 

Over the past 11 months, the students have demonstrated a high level of commitment as they designed, constructed and refined their timber projects, while also developing detailed portfolios documenting their work. Bringing these projects to completion has required considerable perseverance, determination and effective time management, particularly while balancing the demands of their other HSC subjects. 

On Friday, 29 August, the students’ Major Projects were marked by HSC markers, marking an important milestone in their Year 12 journey. These projects represent a significant component of their final result, contributing 60% of their final examination mark, with the remaining 40% assessed through their HSC examination in November. 

The completion of these projects is a wonderful achievement and reflects the dedication, craftsmanship and resilience shown by the students throughout the year.  

We congratulate all of our Industrial Technology students and Mr Storey on their hard work and commitment and wish them every success as they prepare for their HSC examinations in November.  

Shoes 

All students are required to wear fully covered black leather shoes to participate in the kitchens and workshops for Work Health and Safety requirements. Students in incorrect footwear are unable to participate and will be set alternate theory work in another supervised class. 

A New Arrival on the Farm 

We were delighted to welcome our first lamb in several years, born at the beginning of Week 7, arriving just two days before the start of spring! 

Mum, Twix, and her adorable little boy are both doing wonderfully and are thriving in the beautiful spring sunshine. It has been lovely to see this new addition enjoying his first weeks on the farm. 

Designing with Sustainability in mind 

Our Year 7 Textiles Technologies students have been exploring the environmental consequences of fast fashion, including the impact of plastic use and textile waste on our environment. Over the past few weeks, students have been finalising their own bag designs, using their creativity to respond to these important environmental issues. They have explored a range of fabric decoration techniques, including tie-dyeing, paint sticks, Cricut machine designs and appliqué. 

Below are some examples of the wonderful work created by students in Mrs Palmer’s class, showcasing their creativity, developing textile skills and commitment to designing with sustainability in mind. 

Showcasing the work of Year 11 

Community & Family Studies  

Year 11 Community & Families Studies students are anticipating their transition to their final year of schooling! They completed an assessment task where they needed to interview a person who supports a person with diverse needs in Term 1 which brought many of them out of their comfort zones and gave them a taste of Research Methodology, which is their first HSC topic. 

For the 2nd task they had to analyse an episode of Celebrity Apprentice Australia to determine the Roles the Individuals adopt within groups and what factors influence this. They also investigated different types of leadership styles and the impact these can have on group dynamics. They have been busily preparing for their Preliminary Exam by preparing Flash Cards for syllabus terminology retrieval practise, working on a revision booklet and through past Prelim exam papers. They have also had access to online learning platform Atomi to assist them with further revision.  

Industrial Technology Timber 

Our Year 11 Industrial Technology Timber students have been busy throughout Term 3 designing and producing their serving tray/cutting board projects, alongside completing their accompanying portfolios. This project forms their second assessment task and provides an important opportunity for students to experience the planning, production and documentation processes they will undertake when completing their Year 12 Major Timber Projects. It serves as a valuable practice run, allowing students to develop the skills and confidence they will need for the demands of their HSC year. 

The key focus areas for this task include accuracy in measurement and joinery, quality finishing techniques, and effective production communication through the portfolio. Students have been challenged to demonstrate precision, attention to detail and sound workshop practices throughout the project. Following their examinations, students will begin developing their Major Project Proposal in Term 4. Each student will present their proposal to the class and a panel of teachers. This presentation will form the basis of their first assessment task as Year 12 Industrial Technology students and will be an important first step towards their Major Timber Project. 

It has been fantastic to see the students developing their practical skills and confidence as they prepare for the exciting challenges of Year 12.
