Grade 6 Community News
As Term 4 draws to a close, it has been fantastic to watch our Grade 6 students look back on their primary school years while completing their Scrapbooks. There is a strong feeling of anticipation as we get ready for several important milestone events. In the weeks ahead, students will participate in Step-Up Day at their future high schools, celebrate their accomplishments at Graduation, and enjoy a well-deserved day of fun at Funfields. It’s set to be a memorable end to their final year of primary school!
Reading
During Weeks 9 and 10, our Grade 6 students have been dedicated to improving their reading fluency. They have been practising reading aloud with a partner and offering helpful feedback on accuracy, expression, punctuation, and pace. In addition to fluency, students have also been building their comprehension skills by engaging with a variety of texts, including informational articles, fiction, nonfiction, and persuasive writing. It has been wonderful to see them grow into more confident and reflective readers as they get ready to move into secondary school.
Writing
In Writing, our Grade 6 students have continued developing their scrapbooks, thoughtfully creating pieces that celebrate their growth and highlight special memories from their primary school journey. They are now working on their specialist subject pages and will soon complete their final memories page to finish off their scrapbooks.
Mathematics
In Maths, our Grade 6 students have been using their knowledge of the order of operations to tackle increasingly challenging problems. They engaged in a variety of rich tasks that encouraged them to think creatively and explore multiple strategies to find solutions to specific challenges.
