Physical Education News

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome back to another action-packed PE Newsletter! We have seen so much progress throughout this term, and the students are smashing it!

Congratulations to

Preps, Grade One and Grade Two

The Preps, Ones are currently working on their single-handed striking skills. They have been focusing on making sure that they were using a skateboard stance, T position, Elephant trunk swing, and making sure that they finish in a V. Students have made sure to focus on hitting the back of the ball so that it will go straight.

The Twos are currently learning about different invasion games that will prepare them for their transition into grade 3. The grade 2s have played zonal octopus, which is a precursor to games like European handball and matball. The grade 2s are also learning about mat ball, a game similar to netball, except that students score by passing the ball to a person standing on the mat.

Grade 3s to 6s

Grades 3 have continued their striking and fielding units by playing games of teeball and learning the skills that come with it. They have been focusing on striking the ball into gaps so that they can run further and create greater scoring opportunities.

The grade 4s are well into Danish longball, where they need to focus on relay fielding and finding gaps when striking to gain the most points from a run. They had to learn to restrict scoring by, moving the ball quickly when fielding in order to catch the striker.

The Grades 5s have had a focus on softball, with a focus on pitching and fielding effectively. Students have been practicing with the gloves to prepare them for next year and increase their knowledge for the gala days that they will have next year.

The Grade 6s have been creating their own striking and fielding games using games that they have already learnt to create their own. They have been making sure that they are challenging and also fun. They have been able to play them and show them to their classmates.
