French News

Bonjour, dear parents and students!

Term 4 is nearly over, and we are very proud of all our students and the progress they have made in French this year. As this is our final newsletter of the year, each of us has chosen an Étoile de l’Année (Star of the Year) - a student who has stood out for their enthusiasm for learning French and for consistently demonstrating our school values in French classes and clubs, as well as during our Bastille Day performance, which was a real highlight!

Here is a snapshot of what each year level has been working on in Week 9 and Week 10:

Prep students have been learning about the many languages spoken in Australia. They loved telling their classmates about the languages they use at home and sharing some of them during French class. They then explored famous French landmarks and were delighted to recognise several of them.

Grade 1 students learnt to recognise the flags of French-speaking countries and their colours and were amazed to discover that French is spoken in so many parts of the world! They also explored famous French landmarks and practised saying their names with a French accent.

Grade 2 students learnt about French-speaking countries and expanded their knowledge of the Francophone world. They then explored Christmas traditions in France and Quebec.

Grade 3 students built on their prior knowledge and learnt to count from 1 to 80. They then created their Christmas event poster and were very excited to share it with their classmates and teachers.

Grade 4 students worked on their French personal profiles and enjoyed putting this information together on paper. They then worked on their Christmas event poster, once again showcasing their amazing creativity.

Grade 5 and 6 students learnt about French culture and celebrations and enjoyed comparing them to the ways people celebrate here in Australia.'

Congratulations to our lovely Étoile(s) de l’Année:

Nominated by Miss Martine, Dhyan is the Étoile de l’Année for his dedication to the French choir and his talent as a solo singer. His French pronunciation has improved remarkably, and his enthusiasm has been unwavering. We look forward to seeing him - and the French choir - shine at Le Jour de la Francophonie* next year.

*Please note that, from now on, our French Day celebration will be called Jour de la Francophonie (French-speaking World Day) - celebrating all countries where French is spoken - rather than Bastille Day. But don’t worry, it won’t change the amount of fun we’ll have… if anything, it might make it even better!

If you would like to do some revision at home with your children, please feel free to use the resources provided in this term’s newsletters. For our Prep, Grade 1, and Grade 2 students, we have also included some songs below to help support memory retention.

A big bravo to all our wonderful students – we’re incredibly proud of you, and we cannot stress that enough. It has been an incredible year with you all, and we extend our gratitude to all our lovely parents, for your unrelenting support. Have a lovely holiday with your loved ones and stay safe.

Warm regards et à l'année prochaine (Warm regards and see you next year),

Madame Ma, Mr Martins, Mr Zach, and Miss Martine.
