Student Excellence Program

Celebrating a Remarkable Year at Tarneit Rise Primary School – 2025 Reflections & What’s Ahead for 2026:
As we come to the end of another inspiring year at Tarneit Rise Primary School, we are proud to reflect on the achievements, growth, and opportunities that have defined 2025. From academic success and enrichment programs to community events and new initiatives, our students have continued to show what it means to learn with curiosity, confidence, and heart.
High-Ability and Enrichment Programs
Throughout 2025, our commitment to extending and challenging our high-achieving learners has remained a cornerstone of our work. Students across the school have participated in a range of enrichment and high-ability experiences designed to build confidence, deepen knowledge, and encourage critical and creative thinking.
Victorian High-Ability Program (VHAP)
A number of our students took part in the 10-week online VHAP course in Mathematics or English. Working with expert teachers and students across Victoria, participants engaged in rigorous tasks that strengthened higher-order thinking, problem-solving abilities, and advanced literacy and numeracy skills.
Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES)
Students had opportunities to attend exciting workshops and masterclasses, including science, the arts, writing, and mathematics. Highlights included a drawing workshop with renowned Australian author-illustrator Leigh Hobbs and a creative writing masterclass with celebrated author Jacqueline Harvey. These experiences allowed our students to learn from real experts and explore their passions in new ways.
Maths Competitions & Masterclasses
This year, Tarneit Rise proudly entered students into the APSMO Maths Olympiad, Maths Games, and Maths Explorer competitions. Across four contests, students stretched their resilience, logic, and strategic thinking. We also launched our Maths Masterclass for selected Grade 4 and Grade 6 students, strengthening teamwork and problem-solving through rich, hands-on challenges.
Selecting and Supporting Our High-Achieving Students
To ensure fairness and access to a wide range of opportunities, student selection for extension programs continues to be based on:
- Strong academic performance
- Teacher recommendations and classroom observations
- Student motivation, interest, and learning behaviours
- Readiness for challenge and regular attendance
We are incredibly proud of how our students conduct themselves as leaders and learners in these programs. They consistently represent Tarneit Rise with determination, creativity, and pride.
Looking Ahead – Exciting Opportunities in 2026
As we prepare for 2026, we are thrilled to share that even more enriching and innovative learning experiences are on the horizon. Next year, Tarneit Rise will continue to champion excellence through:
- Expanded high-ability offerings, including new enrichment pathways in STEM, advanced literacy, and mathematical reasoning.
- More VCES events, featuring workshops led by scientists, artists, authors, and industry professionals.
- Strengthened Numeracy and Literacy programs, including the ongoing implementation of Ochre Maths (in years 5 and 6) and Ochre English (in years 3 - 6), supporting deeper understanding and mastery across the school.
- Continued participation in national and international maths competitions, giving students even more opportunities to push their thinking beyond the classroom.
- Community connections and excursions that bring learning to life through hands-on, real-world experiences.
A Heartfelt Thank You
We extend our gratitude to our dedicated staff, supportive families, and of course, our incredible students. The growth we have seen this year - academically, socially, and emotionally - has been nothing short of inspiring. Tarneit Rise continues to be a place where every child is nurtured, challenged, and celebrated for who they are and who they can become.
We look forward to an exciting and empowering 2026 as we continue to grow, learn, and thrive together.
Wishing all our families a safe and joyful holiday break.
