Japanese🍙🎌
At the start of the year, students stepped through the torii gate and officially began their journey into Japanese culture. Our classroom entrance has been transformed with a torii gate standing around the door, so as students entered the room, they walked through it just like visitors do at a Shinto shrine in Japan. A torii is a traditional gate that marks the entrance to a special space and represents the transition from the everyday world to somewhere meaningful.
Students learned about the importance of torii gates and their connection to new beginnings. To welcome 2026, they also made their own torii gate craft and, as a class, shared their hopes for a successful and positive year ahead. This was a fun and memorable way to start the year and immerse students in Japanese culture from the very first lesson.
Been to Japan recently?🗾🍡
We would love to showcase students who have visited Japan in the Japanese Room! If your child has travelled to Japan and would like to share their experience, please bring in a photo of them in Japan to display on our travel board.
Heading to Japan soon?✈️🎌
