Level 1

What an exciting time it has been in Level One! Students have really gotten into the swing of things with the new Library being ready to borrow from, homework and nightly readers having started, lunchtime clubs in full swing and 1MN and 1MY even performed in assembly! Level One has been doing so much wonderful learning and are feeling so positive about the year ahead.
Literacy
Level One have been steadily building upon our writing skills by forming 'Really Good Sentences', that include a capital letter, a subject, a verb and a full stop. We have even bumped up our writing by adding descriptive words, like adjectives and adverbs. In Phonics, we have been working on improving our handwriting and learning about the long 'a' sound.
Mathematics
In Maths, Level Ones have been expanding on their number knowledge by showing numbers in many ways, finding patterns in numbers and discussing strategies to help them solve number problems. This week, they have also begun to learn about measuring lengths.
Inquiry
Our Inquiry topic 'Past and Present', has been so much fun to explore! We have made connections to our own memories and started to make connections between books and our own family experiences. 1MN and 1MY even performed a song and read out some writing samples about the past!
