Level 4

Reading
In Level 4, we have continued to practise our reading comprehension skills through investigating the book, My Place. We have loved finding connections throughout the pages, both within its pages and to our broader Inquiry topic. We are practising comprehension skills such as comparing and contrasting, analysing characters and open and closed questioning. Most grades have started Guided Reading groups, allowing small groups to focus more deeply on a different text each lesson.
Writing
Our narratives are in full swing - ask us about what we are writing about! We have been learning how to make our writing more interesting to our readers by hooking them in from the very first paragraph, showing them where our characters are and how they are feeling (rather than just telling them) and making sure our plots make sense and progress well, building tension in just the right parts!
Maths
After we had so much success in place value, we moved onto learning about shape. We used playdough and matchsticks to make the links from 2D to 3D shapes, learned to rotate shapes a certain number of degrees and solved problems in relation to shapes. Here we are creating 3D shapes from 2D shapes, just before we became Pattern Detectives and found the link between the base shape in a pyramid to the number of faces, edges and vertices!
Inquiry
We have completed our mini-projects focusing on celebrations and commemorations in Australia and around the world and have shared them with the grade, teaching our friends about what we have learned.
