Level 5
Literacy
Over the past few weeks, Level 5 students have been practising their reading comprehension skills and narrative writing in order to prepare for the NAPLAN in March. We have been focusing on strengthening our writing skills specifically through idea generation, author's voice, vivid vocabulary, and clear organisation of content. When reading, students have been encouraged to use self-monitoring strategies, answering questions carefully by looking for evidence in the text, and making connections to the text.
Numeracy
In Maths, students have been revising place value, representation of numbers, decimals, properties of numbers, factors and multiples, and representing their knowledge and thinking in a variety of ways. To show their understanding, students have been drawing simple diagrams/charts, creating factor trees, and investigating how numbers can be factors, multiples, odd/even, triangular, square, prime, and composite. Students have also learnt about divisibility rules using the following table:
Inquiry
During Inquiry lessons, Level 5 students have begun to think about Australia's history, and looked at some key events from the 1900s until now. In the next few weeks, students will be learning about the Federation of Australia and the impact on Australian citizens.
