Year 6 students have been working hard over the last year developing their leadership skills. This includes them co-running assemblies, coordinating huff and puff activities, liaising with teachers through SRC groups and class meetings and also assisting in their varied roles.

This week we have had some great leadership demonstrated at Hooptime, The St Joseph's World Cup and the Cyber Safety presentation.

The grade sixes have been very busy in all aspects of their school life in the past two weeks. Focussing on multiplication and BODMAS in mathematics, descriptive narratives in writing, and how to collect and use data in inquiry. On top of all this, students were sports superstars during an amazing rugby clinic which they are looking forward to doing again next week.

Hooptime -

All students in year 5 and 6 who participated in Hooptime this year demonstrated care for others, responsibility and also encouragement for their peers and other students from other schools. It was lovely to hear feedback from teachers that there was a collaborative effort to support our teams and that all students encouraged each other to give their best. Although some of the games were challenging and at times not going in St Joe's favour, the resilience and perseverance was amazing!

Cyber Safety Presentation

This week the year 5/6 students participated in a Cyber Safety Presentation from Victoria Police.

The cyber safety session taught me how to stay safe online and not to post in school uniform. - Ruby S

I thought that it was very interesting how we had a whole 2 hour talk and people still got tricked when the police asked questions because that is how easy it is to get all people's information - Reegan

to be safe online and you never really know who you're talking to online and stranger danger and make sure to have my things on private so people can't see personal information. - Charlee

I think the cyber safety was really good I learnt that you should make sure nothing about you is on the video and 5million people are using the internet at a time. - Oli

I think it was important information. The police told us not to send any information about ourselves like your address, house number, full name, where you are, or any other personal information. Be safe. - Mia

I honestly think that everything was very interesting. I learned that 5 million people are on the internet everyday and that most people on the internet are 35+.

The Victoria Police came to our class on the 23/8/23 to talk about cyber safety. A officer named Pete explained how people on games you play might not be who you think they are. He also explained about a guy that was 40 that faked his age to be with a 14 year old girl. The police found the guy who did that arrested him and took his laptop to check the messages. He was messaging 200 14 year old girls. - Ethan T

The cyber safety lesson yesterday taught me if I have my name on my basketball and I'm posting a video using the basketball I need to cover my name. - Jade

During the cyber safety, I learnt to never share personal information and I found it interesting when they shared stories of what they’ve done. - Izack

I thought that it was very interesting because at my last school we were only taught not to talk to strangers. I thought it was funny when they asked us what we should tell a stranger and we all said nothing so he made us repeat that three times but then at the end, he asked how many people went on the bus and randomly chose Rhys to answer some questions, Rhys answered all of them until he asked where Rhys lived, then he realized that the police were tricking him. It was a cool and interesting experience. Evie

I think it was interesting and funny because they tested a student to see if he would give them information about him self, like what he does after school. Spencer

St Joseph's World Cup

Yesterday all student leaders worked together to engage their teams in a friendly game of Soccer for the St Joseph's World Cup. There were amazing chants, team encouragement and FLags and banners flying high throughout the games. It was wonderful to see all the students encouraging their teammates and working together in a great team effort. Well done to all who assisted in the organisation. This week I am beginning my long service leave. I will return to the classroom in week 3 of Term 4. In the meantime, Lisa will be taking on my role as Deputy Principal, Performing Arts and Maths Leader. Lisa and i will be replaced by Mrs Erin Mullan (M,T,F) and Mrs Meg Urquart (W,T).
