Our Year 9/10 Art students are proud to be part of Shifting Ground at The Condensery Somerset Regional Art Gallery. This unique exhibition showcases student artworks alongside professional artists, all exploring ideas connected to land, environment and place.
The project began last year when one of our amazing art teachers, Nikiesha Stevenson, connected with the gallery, local council and participating artists, creating an opportunity for our school to be involved in the travelling exhibition Shifting Ground. I was excited to continue the project with the Year 9/10 students throughout Term 1 and the first half of Term 2, guiding them as they explored ideas and developed their artworks for the exhibition.
During the Term, students researched the Somerset region, investigating its landscapes, history and environmental changes. They also explored the work of the exhibiting artists to better understand their ideas, materials and techniques. Using this research, students developed their own concepts before creating final artworks in a one-day workshop led by professional artists Ulrica Trulsson and Larissa Warren.
Shifting Ground, along with exhibitions Earthen Form and Unturned, will be on display from 2 May – 12 July 2026.
We encourage everyone to come along and support our young artists while enjoying this inspiring exhibition.
