Rugby League at Toogoolawah SHS

Due to wet weather, the Sunshine Coast Karyn Murphy Cup has unfortunately been postponed and will now take place on 18 June. While disappointing for our girls who were excited to compete this week, we know they will be ready to go when the carnival arrives.

The girls will also be participating in the Toowoomba Karyn Murphy Cup on 5 June, and we look forward to sharing photos and updates in our Week 10 newsletter.

It has been fantastic to see the continued growth of girls’ rugby league at Toogoolawah SHS, and even more exciting that this is the first time the school has fielded a full girls rugby league team. Their willingness to represent the school, step outside their comfort zone, and give rugby league a go should be celebrated.

Late in Term 1, our Boys Rugby League Team travelled to Gatton to participate in a gala day competition and represented the school exceptionally well.

The boys recorded impressive victories against:

  • St Peter Claver College
  • Goondiwindi State High School

The team also secured a hard-fought draw against Bundamba State Secondary College, who ultimately progressed through to the finals.

In the major semi-final, our boys came up against a very strong Faith Lutheran College side, who eventually went on to win the competition. While the result did not go our way, the boys showed determination and resilience throughout the day and represented Toogoolawah SHS with pride.

The following day, our girls combined with Toowoomba State High School and came up against strong opposition including Lockyer District State High School and Faith Lutheran College. Despite taking on some strong teams, our girls competed hard all day and showed plenty of determination in defence.

Their strongest performance came against St Ursula's College, where the team only went down by one try in a very competitive match. The girls should be proud of the way they competed and supported one another throughout the carnival.

We are incredibly proud of all students involved in rugby league and look forward to seeing the continued growth with more competitions across the year.
