Shooting Comp Success

Seven students recently represented our school at a unique two-day inter school shooting competition, co-hosted between Clifton State High School and the Clifton Benchrest Shooting Club Inc. This is the only event of its kind in Australia. The program featured a 75-shot clay target shotgun event and a 50-shot benchrest .22 rifle competition, attracting strong participation from across the region.

A total of 42 students competed in the clay target event, with 74 students taking part in the benchrest competition. Schools travelled from NSW, Roma, Goondiwindi, Brisbane and across Toowoomba, including Clifton, Pittsworth, St Joseph’s, Concordia and Harristown High.

Our students performed admirably in cold and windy conditions, demonstrating focus, responsibility and maturity in what is a high-risk environment. Their conduct and commitment were outstanding across both days.

Congratulations to Jack Munro, who was named overall winner in the benchrest competition with exceptional scores of 191.2 and 193.5 out of 202.

A second event will be held in Semester 2. Students interested in participating are encouraged to be active in local shooting clubs (Esk or Toogoolawah) and gain competition experience, as this is not a beginner-level event.
