Instrumental Music

Our Instrumental Music ensembles are having a huge end of term with multiple performances.  May 21 is the Battle of the Bands where we go up against ensembles from Lockyer and Laidley High schools followed on May 27 with FANFARE in Toowoomba where we perform in a band festival with bands from across the region.  After that we are performing on June 6 at the Toogoolawah Show.  Thank you to all the students who attended our open rehearsal on Open Day.  It was wonderful to see all the kids and parents who visited our band room to see what we do.  I can’t wait to hear our great kids in these festivals and performances.

TSHS Concert Band Excursion to Griffith University Conservatorium of Music

On Wednesday, 1 April, the TSHS Concert Band travelled into Brisbane to visit the Griffith University Conservatorium of Music. The band began the day with a workshop with Dr Stefanie Smith, preparing for our performance at Fanfare in May.

Then over lunch, the students participated in a Q & A session with Dr Stefanie about what music careers are available.

Students then were treated to a lunchtime concert in the Conservatorium Foyer, featuring woodwind students. There were stunning performances featuring flutes, alto saxophones, soprano saxophone and bassoon!

After the concert, Josh from the Conservatorium gave the Concert Band a tour of the campus, answering the numerous questions from the students!

Mr Smith and Miss Graham are very proud of the students. Their effort, acceptance of feedback and general conduct over the day were of the highest standard!
