Salve a tutti! (Hello to everyone!)

È primavera!! (It’s springtime!) ☀️🌷😃

I hope everyone had a good weekend, especially la domenica (Sunday), that just passed, being of course La Festa del Papà (Father’s Day)! I hope you did something special together with your papà, or nonno or zio or father-like figure in your famiglia (family)? Perhaps your children gave you something that they made in Italian class during the week that passed? 😉Or perhaps they may have made a special colazione (breakfast), pranzo (lunch), or cena (dinner), for Father’s Day? I miei figli (my children), took their papà out for a special passeggiata (walk) e poi cena, to a Korean BBQ ristorante (restaurant). Era una serata molto divertente, (it was such a fun evening) as well as tasty food.😋

LO SAI CHE…? (Did you know…?)

In Italia, la festa del papà, (Father’s Day), is not celebrated la prima domenica di settembre, (the first Sunday of September), like here in Australia, it is actually celebrated il 19 marzo, (19th March), which happens to be la Festa di San Giuseppe, (the Feast Day of Saint Joseph), known as the earthly father of Jesus. Traditionally, this used to be a public holiday in Italia, but this holiday stopped in 1977. Families however, still celebrate this on the 19th March, regardless of the day of the week. They get together and have special late lunches or dinners, in honour of il papà or il nonno.

A sweet treat that is eaten on this special day is called le zeppole di San Giuseppe, (fried or baked pastries filled with custard and topped with black cherries and icing sugar). Delizioso!! 😋 I wonder if you have ever tried them? Perhaps a family member has made them for your family? They can also be bought during this special feast day here in Australia, as well as this Father’s Day that just passed…there’s a small local cafe in Brunswick, that sells these special zeppole. Have a look out for them next year. 😀
