Literacy Update
Scholastic Book Fair
A big thank you to everyone who supported our Scholastic Book Fair. The Fair raised an excellent $2,540, which means we have $635 in reward credits to put towards new books and resources for our school.
I’ll continue using these credits to add to our library collection, as well as purchase books and literacy resources for teachers to use in their classrooms with students.
Thank you again to our school community for getting behind the Book Fair and helping us continue to build and refresh our collection.
Premiers’ Reading Challenge
A huge congratulations to all of our students who took part in the Premiers’ Reading Challenge! The challenge has now come to an end, and I have been so pleased to see the enthusiasm and commitment our students have shown towards their reading.
Together, our students read an incredible 2,363 books as part of the challenge!
Students who completed the required reading, including the books listed as part of the Premiers’ Reading Challenge, will receive an official certificate from the Department of Education recognising their achievement.
I would also like to give a very special congratulations to the students who were the highest readers in their year level:
- Joseph Conte - Foundation
- Eliza Purcell - Year 1
- Edith Torney - Year 2
- Daniel Porter - Year 3, outstanding achievement reading 155 books — with a special mention to Asher Howell for reading 132 books
- Sienna Marin and Lillian Sachanandani joint highest number of books
- Thomas Kenely - Year 5
- Clara Perri - Year 6
These students will also receive a lapel pin in recognition of their fantastic reading achievement.
Well done to everyone who took part! It has been wonderful to see so many students getting excited about books, discovering new stories and authors, and challenging themselves to read more. I hope this love of reading continues long after the challenge has finished!
Library and Take Home Reader Borrowing
As we head towards the end of Term 3, Week 9 will be the final week for borrowing from the library. Library books will be returned during Week 10 so we can complete our stocktake, follow up on any overdue items and get everything ready for Term 4.
Take home readers will continue into the beginning of Week 10, giving students some extra time to enjoy their reading before the readers are collected.
Please have a look around at home for any library books or readers that may have found their way onto a bookshelf, into a school bag or under the couch. We’d appreciate them being returned with your child early Week 10.
Over the school holidays, I encourage families (as I always do) to keep the reading going by visiting their local public library. It’s a great way for children to choose books they enjoy, discover something new and continue their reading over the break.
