Year 5/6 News

In Writing, we have been revising and improving our persuasive texts as part of our Persuasive Writing Glow-Up! Students have been learning that great writers don’t simply stop after their first draft, they edit, refine and strengthen their ideas to make their writing more convincing. Students worked through a series of editing challenges, focusing on improving vocabulary, strengthening evidence, adding persuasive devices, developing sentence fluency and crafting stronger concluding sentences. It has been wonderful to see students carefully consider their word choices and make thoughtful changes to take their writing to the next level!
In Maths, we have been learning about multiplying and dividing decimals by 10, 100 and 1,000. This can be a challenging concept, but it has been fantastic to see our students’ confidence grow as they develop their understanding and apply their strategies. We have been working hard to explain our thinking and carefully consider the impact of moving digits between place values - and not moving the decimal point!
A big thank you to all the wonderful dads and special people who joined us for our Father’s Day Morning last week! It was fantastic to see so many of you getting involved and spending some special time with the students. We hope you enjoyed testing your brain with our tricky brain teasers and, of course, thank you for trusting us as you took on the blind obstacle course! We loved seeing everyone get involved, have a laugh and make some special memories together.
Congratulations to our Girls Summer Basketball Team, who played in their final on Friday! The girls showed fantastic determination, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the game. They never let up and continued to give it their best right until the final siren. While unfortunately they didn’t come away with the win, they should be incredibly proud of their effort and the way they represented our school. Well done!
