Year 3 News

As a community, we gathered to celebrate Father’s Day on Friday. Thank you to our special male figures for joining us for breakfast and an activity in our learning spaces. We hope you had a lovely weekend celebrating with your families! 

As mathematicians, our Year 3 students have been developing their understanding of 3D objects and their nets! Students explored how 2D shapes can be arranged and folded to create 3D objects, identifying features such as faces, edges and vertices. To make our learning hands-on, students had lots of fun building 3D objects using Play-Doh and matchsticks. This activity encouraged students to think carefully about the structure of different objects and how their faces and edges connect. It was fantastic to see students experimenting, problem-solving and working collaboratively as they constructed their own 3D shapes!

As inquirers, we have been learning about interdependence and how living things rely on one another to survive. Students created interdependence webs to show the connections between plants, animals, people and other living things within an environment. Through this hands-on activity, students explored questions such as “Who depends on who?” and discovered how even small changes to one part of an ecosystem can have a ripple effect on many other living things. It was wonderful to see students making connections, sharing their ideas and developing a deeper understanding of how all living things are connected!
