Foundation News
We had another wonderful week in Foundation, with a very special start to our Friday as we welcomed our dads into school for our Father’s Day Breakfast. We enjoyed a yummy breakfast together in the hall before heading back to our classrooms for some fun activities all about our dads. We then joined the rest of the school for a fun and entertaining assembly. It was so lovely to see the children proudly sharing this special morning with their dads. We are incredibly grateful to all of our dads who took the time to spend the morning with us. We hope you all had a wonderful Father’s Day on Sunday!
Last week, we continued developing our understanding of information reports. We have been learning how to take interesting facts we have discovered and turn them into an informative report. The children have been working hard to create catchy and interesting titles, include detailed sentences and share facts they have learnt. We have also been putting our knowledge of what makes a good writer into practice by remembering to use finger spaces, full stops, capital letters and our tricky words. It has been wonderful to see the children becoming more confident in sharing their knowledge through their writing!
This week, we have begun our new Measurement unit and have been exploring all things length, mass and capacity! We have been learning through lots of hands-on activities, making comparisons and using everyday objects to help us understand measurement. We have been using mathematical language such as taller, shorter, longer, higher, lower, heavier, lighter, holds more and holds less to describe and compare objects. The children have particularly enjoyed getting hands-on and testing their ideas as they discover that we can measure and compare objects all around us!
We look forward to making the most of our final few weeks of Term 3 together, with lots more learning, fun and special moments before we head off for the holidays!
This week we will be learning about…
- Numeracy- Measurement
- Reading- revision of letter sounds and digraphs ( ch, v, y, x, wh, th, oo, ng, ay) stretching out words, blending the sounds together and reading tricky words
- Writing- writing information reports by recording different sounds we can hear in the words we want to write and using full stops
- Inquiry- What do living things need to survive?
We would love your continued support with number formation, particularly as we are noticing some number reversals, as well as practising our tricky words to build reading fluency and confidence with writing.
Dates to remember:
- Thursday 10th Pyjama Day - Students can wear their PJ’s to school with a gold coin donation
Friday 18th Footy Colours Day - 1pm finish for end of Term
