Year 8 Camp

It was a privilege to attend the Year 8 camps over the last two weeks. The first group of 120 students had a challenging week with the rain but I was so incredibly impressed by their spirit. Although our schedule changed throughout the week, the weather certainly did not dampen the enthusiasm and excitement of the students. One of the highlights of camp was watching students step outside of their comfort zones, embrace new challenges, and encourage one another to do their best. It was inspiring to see friendships strengthened as students supported each other through activities that pushed them physically and mentally.

The first night of camp was especially memorable. I had the opportunity to run an escape room for two groups, which was a fantastic way to see students collaborate, communicate, and problem-solve together. There were plenty of laughs and some impressive teamwork on display. Outside of the organised activities, we enjoyed many card games and several spirited games of touch football, which provided great opportunities to connect with students in a more relaxed setting.

One of the most rewarding aspects of camp was having the chance to spend quality time with students and get to know them more. Whether it was sharing a meal, chatting during activities, or encouraging them through challenging moments, camp provided a unique environment to build relationships and support students as they developed confidence and resilience.

The second week brought much sunnier weather, allowing students to fully enjoy the outdoor adventure activities. High ropes, hiking, and canoeing were among the favourites, with many students accomplishing things they had never attempted before. The beautiful weather, combined with plenty of delicious meals and a positive atmosphere, made for an outstanding week. Across both camps, it was wonderful to witness students grow in confidence, form new friendships, and create lasting memories. It was a rewarding experience and a reminder of the value of stepping outside our comfort zones and embracing new opportunities.
