2026 CLTAQ Chinese Speaking Competition

In early Term 2 2026, our Chinese students had a great opportunity to showcase their language skills through participating in the annual state-wide CLTAQ Chinese Speaking Competition organised by the Chinese Language Teachers’ Association of Queensland (CLTAQ). For many years, being part of this competition has proven to be an excellent way for students to see how far they have come in their language learning journey and encourage the development of a growth mindset.

Prior to the CLTAQ Competition, our Chinese teachers, Ms Cham, Ms Zhang and Mr Gwon held internal competitions to select our school’s representatives for each division of Years 7-8 and 9-10. We had over 35 participants this year and all of the participants showed incredible efforts.

Congratulations to our winners and to all those who competed in the 2026 Chinese Speaking Competition.

Information Session Empowers International Students

On Monday, 1 June, our international students had the valuable opportunity to attend an informative presentation delivered by Queensland University of Technology (QUT) International Student Admissions Officer, Erica.

The session was open to both students enrolled in the International Student Program (ISP) and students studying under Temporary Resident Admissions, ensuring that all international students had the opportunity to learn about potential university pathways.

Erica provided a comprehensive overview of the university application process, including key timelines, entry requirements, and supporting documentation. She also explored a wide range of courses and study pathways available at QUT, helping students better understand how their interests, strengths, and future aspirations can be aligned with tertiary study opportunities.

The presentation highlighted the support services available at QUT, including academic assistance, accommodation support, and programs specifically designed to help international students transition successfully to university life in Australia.

We sincerely thank Erica and Queensland University of Technology for taking the time to support our students as they explore their future education and career pathways. Their insights and guidance will assist students in making informed decisions about their post-school options.

German Immersion Classes - Exciting News

This term Year 7 and Year 8 German Immersion classes took part in a Meme Competition which was organised by the Goethe Institut as part of their yearly German Language Week. The students had many funny ideas and the classes voted for one meme in their class which was entered into the competition. Students could choose from different templates and then had to come up with a funny idea related to German language and culture. Classes from all over Australia took part in the competition and it was highly competitive.

After crossing our fingers for a week, we are happy to announce that German Immersion Class 7C’s meme was announced the winner for the meme competition! The class won $150 for a class breakfast! What a way to end term 2, congratulations to 7C!
