Preparing Our Students for a Digitally Enabled Future
As part of our ongoing commitment to equipping students with the skills, they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving world, we are excited to announce that all Year 7 and 8 students will soon be onboarded to Corella, the Department of Education’s innovative generative AI platform. This initiative builds on our school’s participation in the initial trial of Corella with years 9 and 10 and represents another step forward in our strategic agenda to highlight the importance of digital literacy and prepare students for a future where they will work and live alongside advanced technologies.
Corella is a cutting-edge teaching and learning platform designed to help students explore the potential of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). By engaging with Corella, students will develop a deeper understanding of the benefits, limitations, and challenges of AI. They will also learn how to use this powerful tool safely, ethically, and responsibly. These skills are essential in today’s digital age, where AI is increasingly integrated into workplaces, industries, and everyday life.
As educators, we believe it is our responsibility to guide students in navigating the complexities of AI. The Australian Government has recognised this need and released the Australian Framework for Generative AI in Schools, which provides a foundation for teaching students about the ethical and purposeful use of AI. Our teachers will play a central role in this process, helping students strengthen their critical and creative thinking skills while fostering an ethical understanding of how to use AI appropriately in their studies and beyond.
We understand that the introduction of AI in education may raise questions for parents and caregivers. Please rest assured that the use of Corella is guided by careful pedagogical and educational intent. The platform is designed to support and enhance student learning, not replace the vital role of teachers nor the creative and critical thinking of students. Furthermore, all Year 7 and 8 students will participate in a Connect lesson early next term, where they will learn about the safe, ethical, and responsible use of generative AI—whether or not they are directly involved in the Corella program.
We are confident that this initiative will provide our students with invaluable skills and knowledge, preparing them to navigate a digitally enabled future with confidence and integrity. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to empower our young people to succeed in an ever-changing world.
