Deputy Principal
Cameron Drew - Year 10
As we move into the final weeks of Term 2, there is a real sense of momentum across our school community. Students have embraced opportunities both inside and outside the classroom, challenged themselves through camps, sport, leadership development, and careers education, and continue to demonstrate resilience and commitment as they prepare for upcoming assessments and exams.
The final weeks of term are an opportunity to reflect on achievements, maintain focus, and finish strongly. We encourage all students to remain organised, support one another, and continue striving for their personal best.
Across Week 6 and 7, our Year 8 students participated in camp experiences at the Maroon Outdoor Education Centre.
Camp 1 in Week 6 certainly provided students with an authentic outdoor experience, with persistent rain making for a very wet few days. Despite the challenging weather conditions, students demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and a positive attitude throughout the camp. Many embraced the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones and make the most of every activity.
Camp 2 in Week 7 enjoyed improved conditions and was another successful experience for our Year 8 cohort. Students participated in a range of outdoor challenges designed to build confidence, cooperation, and independence.
A huge thank you to our staff who attended and supported both camps, helping create memorable experiences for our students.
A group of Year 9 students recently attended the yLEAD Altitude Day in Brisbane City.
The event focused on an important message: leadership is not determined by a title or position. Students explored how every individual has the capacity to positively influence those around them through their actions, attitudes, and choices.
Throughout the day, students participated in engaging workshops, heard from inspiring speakers, and reflected on ways they can contribute positively to our school community.
It has been another busy and successful period for school sport, with students representing the school across mountain biking, Met North Cross Country, AFL, football, netball and the EVP Intermediate Schools Cup. We congratulate all students who have competed over recent weeks, demonstrating commitment, teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship while proudly representing our school.
A special congratulations goes to the Year 10 Boys Honours team, who achieved an outstanding result at the EVP Intermediate Schools Cup, winning Gold for the third consecutive year. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication of the players and coaches and highlights the strength of our sporting programs.
We thank all students, staff, coaches, and families who continue to support school sport and contribute to these opportunities and successes.
In Week 6, our Year 10 students attended Careers Day at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The event provided students with valuable opportunities to explore future pathways, engage with industry representatives, and learn more about career options, tertiary study, apprenticeships, and vocational opportunities.
Experiences such as Careers Day encourage students to think about their future aspirations and begin making informed decisions about subject selections and post-school pathways.
With exams and assessment deadlines approaching, now is the time for students to establish productive study habits and finish the term strongly.
Here are a few simple tips to help students prepare effectively:
1. Create a Study Plan
Break study into manageable sessions and schedule time for each subject. Consistency is far more effective than last-minute cramming.
2. Review Regularly
Spend time revisiting class notes, assessment feedback, and key concepts. Regular revision helps improve understanding and retention.
3. Practise Retrieval
Test yourself without looking at your notes. Practice questions, flashcards, and quizzes are excellent ways to strengthen memory.
4. Stay Organised
Keep assessment calendars updated and ensure all resources are prepared well before due dates and exam sessions.
5. Prioritise Wellbeing
Adequate sleep, healthy nutrition, regular exercise, and time away from screens all contribute to improved concentration and performance.
6. Ask for Help Early
Teachers are available to support students. If clarification is needed, seeking assistance early can make a significant difference.
Remember, preparation builds confidence. Every small effort made now contributes to success later.
As we approach the final weeks of Term 2, we encourage all students to maintain their focus, continue supporting one another, and take pride in their efforts.
There is much to celebrate across our school community, and we look forward to seeing students finish the term with determination, resilience, and a commitment to excellence.
Let's finish Term 2 strong.
