Secondary: Careers Expo

Our Secondary students recently had the opportunity to explore a wide range of future study and career pathways at the Islamic College of Melbourne’s 2026 Careers Expo.

Before the Expo officially opened, our VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) students took the lead by running their own stalls and information sessions for fellow Secondary students. They shared what they had learned about different tertiary, vocational, hands-on and sporting pathways, providing their peers with practical information to help them consider the many options available after school.

The experience also gave our VCE VM students an opportunity to put their own skills into practice. By taking responsibility for presenting information, answering questions and engaging directly with other students, they demonstrated confidence, communication and leadership skills, a fitting student-led start to a day focused on future pathways.

Throughout the Expo, students spoke directly with representatives from universities, training providers and industry organisations, as well as Islamic organisations, including mosques and Islamic training providers. These conversations gave students valuable insights into further education, training and career opportunities available beyond Secondary School.

There was also plenty for students to experience firsthand. Virtual reality experiences allowed them to step into different careers, while racing and excavator simulators provided an interactive taste of real-world industries and workplaces.

Food trucks added to the atmosphere, giving students an opportunity to enjoy something to eat before continuing to explore the many stalls and experiences on offer.

The 2026 Careers Expo was a valuable opportunity for our students to broaden their understanding of future possibilities, ask questions and begin thinking about the pathways that best suit their interests and aspirations.
