Y 7–9: Printmaking  

Our year 7 to 9 students embarked on an exciting yet challenging printmaking journey throughout Term 2. Our students showed exemplary effort and resilience in developing their artistic skill and refining their printmaking abilities through weeks 

of vigorous practice and experimentations. 

Students were engaged through a variety of mediums, encouraged to tap into art skills that they have acquired from Term 1; such as free-hand drawing skills, developing thumbnail artwork through planning and continuously sketching to refine 

their plans to create intricate designs. 

They were also encouraged to use ‘art and design’ elements and principles to refine their artwork in preparation for the imprints they will create through the printmaking process.  

Throughout the process, they showed great interest and passion as they developed a desire to create, refine and accomplish a desired outcome with enthusiasm.  

They began the topic by exploring printmaking strategies such as creating seamless imprints using a variety of sketching methods to reorganise their 

drawings to achieve a seamless design.  

Students then explored creating indentations and engravings on soft carving blocks using specific carving tools. Despite the challenges and obstacles faced in achieving perfect imprints; they showed exemplary creativity, persistence and achieved a desirable 

outcome of printing unique designs.  

We acknowledge the efforts of our students in achieving a positive milestone and completing the course of printmaking. This was an exciting opportunity for our students to expand on new art methods and skills to challenge their artistic abilities to create 

intrinsic art as they conclude Semester 1.
